After watching Gary Hustwit's Objectified, I decided to compile a list of designers and the quotes I found helpful in aiding my ideas for designing my object. Karim Rashid stated, "Imagine that if you design a million chairs to date or however many chairs have been done in the world, why on earth should we have an uncomfortable chair?" which led me to choose to create a sofa for my project.

Another designer that helped me come up with ideas for my sofa is Naoto Fukasawa, he stated that "people don't think about the tools they're using while they're using them" which got me thinking about how I often mindlessly just sit down on the sofa I have at home. So I observed my family and their habits while leisurely sitting around in the living room in order to see the possible design problems within my own home. While observing my family I realized that occasionally some of them slept on the sofa, taking up the entire space leaving others to go off into their own rooms or sit somewhere else. With this in mind, I decided to make a sofa that will make it much more convenient in daily life for my family.


At first, I started with a quick sketch of the type of couch I wanted to create




Then I started using Tinkercad, but while using it I ran into a couple of small problems. I've been using Autodesk Inventor since high school so Tinkercad (although it was designed for kids) was somewhat more difficult for me to understand and get used to. I spent a long time trying to fillet but eventually managed to get it done and have a result I'm pretty satisfied with.

 Rocking Chair The title for this object is Fusion Rocking Chair. Based on the name you can assume that this rocking chair is a fusion of two different styles. My main inspiration for this piece is Filipino-style rocking chairs, specifically one that my grandfather owned. Then I chose to combine the technique of weaving into a Glasgow style chair similar to the ones designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Here are some sample images to show the basic concept I chose to work with: My intention for this project was just to make the most obscure piece of furniture I could think of and add my own spin to it through my knowledge of art movements and personal experiences. I felt like overall the concept is pretty unique as it is meant to be a furniture piece that can also pass off as an art piece. Papercraft Final

Papercraft Object: Final Revision March 19, 2020 After speaking with Bryan I realized that I didn't actually need to make my actual fan completely three dimensional and that I could just place multiple pieces over each other so with that I started making an even more complicated template.  Bryan gave an extremely useful suggestion of making the actual fan inside a pinwheel so that it can actually spin which is something that a lot of people suggested adding to the final and so I chose to do that and got to work on the actual templates.  Here are the paper templates I made on Rhino, If we had to cut this out this by hand I would've most likely given up but the laser cutter is an actual lifesaver.  Here are some renders of what the final piece would look like, For the final piece, I wanted the fan to be able to actually stand, so I added coins in the bottom of the handle to be able to support the actual fan and I also included the st

Reversed Engineered Object: Progress II

 Reversed Engineered Object: Project II October 24, 2020 This week I finally managed to pull apart my entire object so I was finally able to get a close look at every small little detail without worrying about any small dimensions I couldn't get. This week I chose to do the second most challenging piece which is this contraption.
