[06.) BLOG POSTS: PARAMETRIC FURNITURE/STRUCTURE COLLAB: FULL SCALE PROTOTYPE] WEEK 1

Week 1 

a.) What did your team accomplish

Our group chose a general idea of a concept they wanted to do which was an indoor furniture piece made for the school, which is multifunctional and made as a working space for the students.

b.) What did you, personally, contribute? What was your role?

I suggested 3 concepts for the group project. The first one I suggested was a wood panel chandelier, I looked into Frank Lloyd Wright, pieces that fit into each other, unique shadows and something that is more like an art piece.



The second one is a light fixture with a mix of both wood and acrylic.


The third one is a steampunk style interactive table that incorporates moving parts



Then the group decided to come together and choose a basic direction they wanted to go for and do more roughs that would match that concept. I chose to focus specifically on the multifunctional use of a furniture piece and looked into some problems I usually have with stuff at AuArts. And my biggest pet peeve was honestly just how dirty my jacket and bag always got hanging from the different chairs. So I made very basic designs of the concept I was thinking of.

The first is simply some sort of chair that has a detachable cushion so you can easily place your items inside. And the second one is a space-saving desk and chair combination in a more modern style which also has the possibility of incorporating a little storage space for the students.


c.) What challenges or successes did you and/or your team encounter?

I personally think as a group we could've been more unified in choosing a said direction earlier instead of going off on our own then coming together and choosing to do even more roughs as we do not really have a final chosen direction to go with as of yet. I found this rather challenging for myself as I had to put extra time on multiple days for this class when I am currently taking 6 courses, so I felt like it would be nicer to simply meet and have everything done once a week so that we are able to have the main goal set when we meet with each other in class to efficiently go ahead with our project.

Papercraft Object: Final Revision March 19, 2020 After speaking with Bryan I realized that I didn't actually need to make my actual fan completely three dimensional and that I could just place multiple pieces over each other so with that I started making an even more complicated template.  Bryan gave an extremely useful suggestion of making the actual fan inside a pinwheel so that it can actually spin which is something that a lot of people suggested adding to the final and so I chose to do that and got to work on the actual templates.  Here are the paper templates I made on Rhino, If we had to cut this out this by hand I would've most likely given up but the laser cutter is an actual lifesaver.  Here are some renders of what the final piece would look like, For the final piece, I wanted the fan to be able to actually stand, so I added coins in the bottom of the handle to be able to support the actual fan and I also included the st

[04.) BLOG POST(S): PARAMETRIC FURNITURE/STRUCTURE SCALE MODEL] Part 1

 Rocking Chair The title for this object is Fusion Rocking Chair. Based on the name you can assume that this rocking chair is a fusion of two different styles. My main inspiration for this piece is Filipino-style rocking chairs, specifically one that my grandfather owned. Then I chose to combine the technique of weaving into a Glasgow style chair similar to the ones designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Here are some sample images to show the basic concept I chose to work with: My intention for this project was just to make the most obscure piece of furniture I could think of and add my own spin to it through my knowledge of art movements and personal experiences. I felt like overall the concept is pretty unique as it is meant to be a furniture piece that can also pass off as an art piece. Reversed Engineered Object: Progress II

 Reversed Engineered Object: Project II October 24, 2020 This week I finally managed to pull apart my entire object so I was finally able to get a close look at every small little detail without worrying about any small dimensions I couldn't get. This week I chose to do the second most challenging piece which is this contraption.
