3D Object Design

 Week 2 Our team has decided to split off into different subgroups for each individual part we have been assigned to work on, and I have been assigned to the design team for the chair component. Our team decided to split off into our own ways and create a design that we feel will work with the overall basic design the desk team had. And so I have created two different designs for the group to go over for our chair designs and rendered them so others in the team can see the type of style I was planning on going for. Option 1: Wood + Acrylic Storage Bench/Chair The main concept behind this one is a more modern furniture take on something similar to a toy box, I got some inspiration from Daniela's designs she shared last week with the bright beautiful colours so I created a design for the chair to add more of a flair to a more modern chair design. Week 1  a.) What did your team accomplish Our group chose a general idea of a concept they wanted to do which was an indoor furniture piece made for the school, which is multifunctional and made as a working space for the students. b.) What did you, personally, contribute? What was your role? I suggested 3 concepts for the group project. The first one I suggested was a wood panel chandelier, I looked into Frank Lloyd Wright, pieces that fit into each other, unique shadows and something that is more like an art piece. The second one is a light fixture with a mix of both wood and acrylic. The third one is a steampunk style interactive table that incorporates moving parts Then the group decided to come together and choose a basic direction they wanted to go for and do more roughs that would match that concept.  Scale Model I used the laser cutter in order to make my scale model of the rocking chair. I used the birch plywood that was offered in the Thing Tank, cut out my pieces and then put them all together. Overall the scaled size ended up being 15.5 cm because I scaled down my object 10x. I also changed my design just for the scale model in order to put it together more easily due to the small size. (Ex: Back grid) Here are some images of my scale model

 Rocking Chair The title for this object is Fusion Rocking Chair. Based on the name you can assume that this rocking chair is a fusion of two different styles. My main inspiration for this piece is Filipino-style rocking chairs, specifically one that my grandfather owned. Then I chose to combine the technique of weaving into a Glasgow style chair similar to the ones designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Here are some sample images to show the basic concept I chose to work with: My intention for this project was just to make the most obscure piece of furniture I could think of and add my own spin to it through my knowledge of art movements and personal experiences. I felt like overall the concept is pretty unique as it is meant to be a furniture piece that can also pass off as an art piece.  What Have I Done? Hi! To get started on my brainstorming I did a lot of research and while doing that research I realized I had absolutely no idea on what to make. So I thought to myself, what is the most obscure furniture piece that I can think of right now. And the answer is... A rocking chair. I started looking into them more and how I can make it somewhat parametric but everything I searched online was just not the style I wanted to create, I started on a piece that looked more modern but I felt like it was far too simple for my liking. All I could think about was my grandfather's rocking chair back in the Philippines. So I began looking into Filipino-style rocking chairs and found really nice examples that I could work off of. I really liked the weaving on these rocking chairs and decided I wanted to implement them into the design I was going to create.   OBDF 310A Parametric Structure and Animation This week I created a parametric structure using grasshopper. And this is what I ended up making I had a lot of trouble in terms of making this project because I had an idea that I wanted to execute in my head but it just wouldn't work when I put it into Grasshopper. So I had to improvise and try to create the most similar object to what I originally intended. 

 OBDF 310A My First Definition  I followed the tutorials just like they were taught and had no idea what I was honestly planning to do for this first blog post.  After finishing all of the tutorials I ended up with this: Then I chose to experiment more specifically with colours on the lofts and also created an even larger object. Which eventually led to this: Grasshopper is quite easy to learn if you test stuff out and learn as you go, even while working on this specific object I was still struggling to be able to set a specific colour to one side of the loft while making the other side a different one. But in the end, I was able to figure it out on my third attempt and was able to create a nice transition on the last two lofts.
